Principal Mechanical Engineer

Mark is one of the founding partners of Sterling. Mark is responsible for investigating, designing, and commissioning heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, process, and fire suppression systems. Mark’s experience includes work in: tight-tolerance clean rooms down to class 10, metrology labs, industrial process facilities, biomedical, biotechnical, and pharmaceutical research laboratories, central computer rooms, hospitals, universities, high-rise office buildings, and digital switching stations. He also has significant experience with central plant systems (heating and cooling), fire pumps, specialty gas, liquid and exhaust distribution systems, explosion venting, and noise and vibration control. Mark received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA.

Principal Electrical Engineer

Joe is one of the founding partners of Sterling. Joe is responsible for investigating, designing, and commissioning electrical and life safety systems. Joe’s experience includes: tight-tolerance clean rooms down to class 100, metrology labs, biomedical, biotechnical, and pharmaceutical research laboratories, computer rooms, hospitals and medical clinics, industrial process facilities, universities, and high-rise office buildings. He also has significant experience with low and medium voltage distribution, emergency and standby power systems, new service and switchgear, and central fire alarm systems. Joe received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island, in Kingston, RI..

Jennifer V. Morrison-Dominguez

As one of the founding partners of Sterling Engineering, Jenn is responsible for all aspects of business management and operations. Her work experience includes public relations, advertising, business-to-business marketing, direct sales, and business operations. In addition to running the daily operations at Sterling, Jennifer is responsible for accounting and finance functions, client relationship management, risk management and contract negotiations, personnel, and strategic planning.

Tom Kearney

Tom Kearney

Senior Electrical Engineer

Tom joined Sterling in October of 2007. He has more than 30 years of engineering experience including power, lighting, fire alarm and telecommunications for a variety of commercial, industrial and educational clients. Tom received his BSEE from University of New Haven in West Haven, CT. Prior to embarking upon his engineering career, Tom started out as an electrical apprentice working in general construction.

Tim joined Sterling in the spring of 2016 as a recent graduate of the University of Maine with his Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering Technology. Tim brings with him several years of hands-on experience in the plumbing trade that informs his ability to understand mechanical and plumbing systems and see beyond the paper. Tim is rapidly expanding his skill set and taking greater project responsibility as he broadens his experience in a variety of project types including large-scale mechanical, plumbing and fire protection systems serving biomedical research and cleanroom applications.Tim is actively working toward his PE and looks forward to taking the exam in 2024.

Ryan joined Sterling just after graduating from the University of Rhode Island (cum laude) in May of 2020. He brings with him an excellent academic resume of project work we well as two summers of intern experience with the company. Ryan is excited to continue growing his skills under the tutelage of his father, Joe Hultquist, principal in the firm. Ryan will be heavily involved with academic/institutional projects as well as supporting the firm’s extensive high-tech project base. Ryan is actively working toward his PE and looks forward to taking the exam in 2024.

Derrick came to Sterling just after graduating from WPI in May of 2022. With an impressive academic record, Derrick has already proven his critical thinking skills, focus, and drive on several semiconductor sector projects. Derrick is on pace to advance his skills and knowledge base quickly as he supports the firm’s extensive high-tech project portfolio. Derrick looks forward to the challenging work ahead and has set his sights on gaining his PE in a few years.

Janine Ruggeri

Jan has been with Sterling Engineering since 1999. During her tenure she has worked on a variety of projects, including: biomedical and pharmaceutical research facilities, cleanroom production areas for semiconductor component manufacturing, low noise labs including metrology areas, industrial processing facilities, central fire pump systems, architecture studios, educational offices and classrooms, banks, and dining facilities. As a senior mechanical designer Jan is responsible for distribution layout and sizing of air and fluid systems; heating and cooling load calculations; geometric coordination of mechanical services and equipment; component selection for fans, pumps, and terminal devices.

Carol Andrighetti

Carol has more than 30+ years of electrical design and drafting experience and is a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Her work experience includes biomedical and pharmaceutical research facilities, educational offices and classrooms and mid- and high-rise residence halls. As a senior designer Carol is responsible for designing and routing electrical and life safety systems, geometric coordination of electrical services and equipment, supporting the engineer in selecting major electrical equipment and accessories.

Richard Gardner

Sr. Mechanical Designer

Rick is Sterling’s site lead and is responsible for design layout of HVAC, plumbing and fire suppression systems and geometric coordination of mechanical services and equipment. His career spans almost 40 years in the construction industry. His site responsibilities include in-the-field verification of the built environment as well as documenting the as-built condition. Rick’s work includes: biomedical and pharmaceutical research labs, cleanrooms, industrial processing facilities, and university campus facilities.

Technical Support Staff

Sterling’s technical support staff includes site technicians and drafters/designers who are an integral part of Sterling’s success. Our technical team supports the work of our senior staff designers and engineers in establishing the existing building conditions upon which our designs are based.

This team also assists in bringing the engineering design concepts to life on detailed construction documents as they work in tandem with our senior designers. This effort is undertaken under the watchful eyes of our engineers, who remain available to all staff throughout the design process.
